LETTER: ‘Buhari lied, Sokoto has no Federal Permanent Secretary’

Dear Editor,

We read with dismay President Muhammadu Buhari’s interview with BBC’s Mansur Liman, which was published by your newspaper on December 27, 2015.

In the interview PMB made us to believe that each States has a Permanent Secretary just as the Ministers in his cabinet.

The truth of the matter is that currently Sokoto State does not have a Permanent Secretary. The last Federal Permanent Secretary from Sokoto State was Alhaji Bashir Sambo, who until his retirement was the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Transport.

It is quite shocking when Buhari tried to make us believe that each state has a Federal Permanent Secretary. And that left us with so many unanswered questions:

Who is not comfortable with Sokoto State having a Federal Permanent Secretary?

Is it not in the Federal Character Act that each state should have a permanent secretary?

Does Buhari’s aides made him to sign and believed that each State should have a representation in the Federal appointment?

Is Sokoto State paying for the sins of some of its citizens, despite the over 75% votes they gave to Buhari in the last election?

Why is it that none of the media houses were able to at least investigate this injustice?

While we keep searching for answers to these questions, one thing for sure is that if Buhari really believed that each state has a permanent secretary then he must be surrounded by saboteurs and deceitful persons, who will for sure lead to his downfall. God forbid!
