The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a big victory in Saturday’s local council election in Zamfara state.

The party has received all the chairmanship positions.
Garba Muhammad, the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission in the state, said on January 3 in Gusau that all the aspirants of the APC in the 14 councils had met all the provisions of the electoral law and had been announced winners of the poll in their respective councils.
INEC chairman added that 14 political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party, took part in the election.
Meanwhile, the PDP in a statement by its state chairman Hassan Nasiha, beffore the election, said it was boycotting the poll.
The party also said since it was still challenging the election of Governor Abdulaziz Yari at the Supreme Court, it would not take part in the poll.
On his own part, Muhammad praised all shareholders, including security agencies, for ensuring the success of the election.
The APC last year consolidated its hold on the political landscape, winning some PDP strongholds in governorship election.
The party won in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Adamawa and Kebbi states that were held by the PDP. Besides, it retained Nasarawa and Borno states
