Sylva Steps In To Quell Patience Jonathan’s Alleged Support

He said: “As for the former first lady, I make bold to say that I do not need her support as long as the people are behind us.

“Let me use this opportunity to clarify some reports that I am being backed by the former first lady.

“That cannot be true even though I don’t want to go into details of what had happened in the past.”

With Bayelsa rerun just two days away, Sylva accused Governor Dickson and the PDP of stockpiling arms and kitting some youths with the aim of causing mayhem in the state ahead of the poll.

He said: “I have intelligence reports that both the governor and his party, the PDP, have made military uniforms and are already moving them into the Government House with Fire Service marked vehicles.

“The governor is an epitome of violence who sacked a court in session and could beat up a local government chairman for not working enough for him. Yet, he is the one crying foul and complaining all the time. This means that something is wrong somewhere. Someone’s head need to be examined.

“The violence the governor and his party are planning is such that they want the election in Southern Ijaw disrupted and subsequently cancelled so that INEC could declare him winner. All I know is that only the winner of the January 9 poll under free and fair conditions can be said to have won.

“On INEC, I can say that the current chairman of INEC is a man of honour and integrity. But my worry is that the state leadership of INEC is biased, being a product of the former president who put it in place to do his bidding for the last presidential election.

“The same Southern Ijaw, which is now subject of complaints, had delivered about 78,000 votes for the former president in the last election, so why would anyone think APC cannot garner even more than that?” Sylva asked.

Following irregularities in Bayelsa state, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) moved swiftly to nullify the governorship election in the region. According to the INEC, the election was nullified due to violence, abduction of electoral officials and ballot box snatching in Southern Ijaw local government area.

However, results already announced show that the PDP’s candidate Governor Seriake Dickson is clearly leading in the poll.

He has so far won six of the seven local government areas announced by the INEC while his biggest rival, Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC has won in just one local government. A landslide victory for either PDP or APC in Southern Ijaw will however decide who will be heading to the government house.

The rerun election in the state is set to be held on January 9.
