APC Says No To Ex-Governor, Businessman Defecting from PDP to APC

The ruling APC has barred former governor from joining the party

This follows the mass defection of chieftains of Peoples Democratic Party from the southeast to the APC.

It was learnt that the current development became clear following fresh confusion over the genuine candidates to contest the rerun election for Anambra Central Senatorial district, following the nullification of the election of Senator Uche Lillian Ekwunife on December 6, 2015.

Senator Ekwunife had defected to the APC few days ago citing the myriad of leadership crisis rocking the PDP both at national and state levels as one of the reasons why she jumped ship.

She frown at the nullification of her election saying it ‘ was mischievously cancelled’ and slammed the court for turning itself to a Father Christmas by granting a relief not sought by the petitioner, Victor Umeh, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Ekwunife stated further that a Federal High Court in Abuja had before the appellate court ruling, had upheld her candidacy in a suit filed by Sylvester Annie Okonkwo, challenging the validity of her nomination. She queried why the Appeal Court should rule that she was not duly and legitimately nominated as the PDP candidate.

“The outcome of what we witnessed was a conspiracy between some elements in PDP and the state government”, she added; lamenting that “even if I were not the valid candidate, the right thing for the court was to declare whosoever came second in the PDP Primaries as the authentic candidate, thereby replacing me as it is purely a party matter,” she said.

There is confusion in the PDP camp as to who between Ekwunife and Okonkwo was the authentic PDP candidate for the Anambra Central Senatorial district.

Also the APGA is torn by two contending candidates’ btween Umeh and Barrister Obi Okafor of the Maxi Okwu faction.

However, stakeholders in the senatorial district, after arising from a meeting at Njikoka, reportedly endorsed Senator Ekwunife for the position stressing that the zone cannot toy with the idea of having “a non-ranking senator in the senate at this point in time.”

Meanwhile, former information minister, Jim Nwobodo had revealed why left the PAP for APC.

He stated that he was not coming to the APC to take over anyone position or take over the party machinery in Enugu state.

Nwobodo explained that he left the PDP strictly on principle and for good of his people
