Abby Wambach, who is the all-time leading goalscorer in women’s football has announced that she will retire at the end of a World Cup victory tour in December.
The 35-year old legend has scored 184 goals in 252 games over a 15-year period and was part of the 2015 World Cup winning squad for the United States.
Aside winning the World Cup, the striker has also won two Olympic golds and was in 2012 named FIFA Women’s world player of the year.
Speaking on her retirement, Wambach said: “It’s been an amazing, wonderful ride and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter of my life brings.”
Abby Wambach is also a six-time US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year winner.
