Wike Holds Meeting With Rivers State Stakeholders

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers state, has stated that he is absolute confident in the judiciary and assured people of the state that his mandate would be upheld in the course of the appeal process.
Governor Nyesom Wike held a meeting with stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, October 29.
Premium Times reports that the governor declared this while meeting with stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, October 29.
The stakeholders comprising of senators, members of the House of Representatives, traditional rulers, elder statesmen and state legislators stressed that they were solidly behind Wike who was duly elected on April 11, 2015.
During the meeting the governor took the opportunity to dissociate himself from a statement made by his media adviser Opunabo Nko-Tariah, describing the tribunal judgment as judicial terrorism and gang-up.
The stakeholders included senators, members of the House of Representatives, traditional rulers, elder statesmen and state legislators.
Wike noted that his aide had no mandate to issue such a statement and shouldn’t have criticized judges despite the judicial setback.
“Be assured by the Grace of God our lawyers are working hard to file the appeal within stipulated time. I have told people that it is not in our character to cast aspersion on judges. I have also told people not to speak on my behalf to castigate judges. The tribunal is not the final appellate court on this matter. There is no need of castigating the judiciary.
“We are not one of those when judgment favours you, you says you have confidence in the judiciary. When it does not favour you, you lose confidence in the judiciary.
“I want to say in the past two days, you must have read where they quoted me as saying judicial terrorism or judicial gang-up, I never said so. And I never authorised anybody to say so on this matter,” the governor said.

Speaking further, Wike revealed that his team of lawyers was working hard to complete the process of filing an appeal against the judgment.
He assured the people of Rivers state that he was not distracted by the judgment as he was feeling support of the stakeholders and the ordinary people.
Meanwhile, Uche Secondus, the acting national chairman of the PDP, assured the governor that all people of the state were behind him against the struggle by external forces to invade the state.
Senator George Sekibo, in his turn, stressed that Wike was duly elected and his election would be upheld in the course of the appeal.
Yesterday, October 29, hundreds of market women stormed the streets of Port Harcourt to express their dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s ruling to annulle the declaration of Nyesom Wike as the winner of the April 11, 2015, gubernatorial poll.
