Ahead of the 2016 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board exams, the Nigerian Government has approved the construction of Computer Based Test, CBT, centres in eight states.
The Board’s registrar, Dibu Ojerinde, said the eight centres will be in the both the North and South in states like Kano, Oyo, Niger and Bayelsa.
Speaking at end of the monitoring exercise for the CBT exams, the Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, said government was bent on reducing the challenges and number of days for the examination.
According to Mr. Shekarau, the CBT centres would house about 270 computers.
He stated that government was satisfied with the conduct of the examination, as it has taken Nigeria to modern and global trend in the education sector.
He described the CBT as a huge success for the nation and added that government has started studying all the challenges of CBT in 2014.
“We have directed all the state commissioners to go out on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, and on behalf of JAMB because education is everybody’s business,” he said.
“What the committee is doing is to collate all the happenings on this new system and let’s see the level of problems we have. In the average we have not received any serious complain, with more than 80 per cent success,” he said.
Mr. Shekarau stated that the Ministry of Education is waiting for the various committee to collate all the results, assess it and then advice JAMB through the Ministry how to improve upon the success recorded so far.
“That’s the main purpose of the committee; to address issues that are likely to come and to assure Nigerians that we are not just throwing a new thing to the street and we are not ready to listen to the complains,”he added
“With time the target will be that every state will have centres which is really compelling and will further expose our students to new technology,” he added.
Over one million candidates across 400 centres in Nigeria and eight other countries sat for the 2014 UTME which commenced on March 10 and ended on March 21.
