Pandemonium broke out around the National Stadium axis of Surulere, Lagos State, when suspected thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) clashed with members of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), attacking motorists who were trying to connect the Ojuelegba end of Western Avenue Road.
According to eyewitness account, members of the OPC, loyal to Ganiu Adams were actually on an awareness march ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Trouble broke out when supporters of a National Assembly aspirant on the APC platform, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who were also on a political solidarity march came face-to-face with the OPC members.
Cutlasses and machetes were freely used, as motorists plying the Western Avenue Road scampered to safety, abandoning their vehicles in the traffic gridlock which ensued.
With the violence in Surulere today, the atmosphere for elections in Lagos had become charged, even as the elections is still days away.
