More Nigerians gathered on Tuesday, at the residence of Professor E.O Olurin, a foremost international surgeon, who died on Monday evening, at his residence, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Major-General Tunji Olurin, a former military governor of Oyo State and a member of the Olurin family, described him as a foremost surgeon whose contribution to medical care delivery and training, will be remembered for long.
He declared that the surgeon was loved by all, adding that the family had lost a gem.
Chief (Mrs) Folanke Solanke, SAN, described him as an accompanished surgeon, whose legacy in surgery will not be forgotten
“He was a gentle man and it is always a pleasure to be in the company of his family. He had served Nigeria well as a surgeon in the University College Hospital, where he was a colleague of my late husband, Professor Toriola Solanke.”
A former Chief Medical Director of UCH, Professor Olajide Ajayi, who stated that he came under Professor Olurin’s watch 48 years ago, said “he has been on the field for a long as a teacher and a mentor both in Ibadan and in West Africa.”
In the condolence register, Professor Akin Mabogunje, described him as “a man of infectious humour and elegance; a true brave heart.”
Other dignitaries that had paid tribute to the late surgeon included Reverend (Mrs) Tola Oyediran, Chief Kemi Jayeoba Olorunsogo, Chief Afolabi Ogunlesi, Professor J. A Lawanni and Oye Olatawura amongst others.
