FCT introduces allowances for teachers in remote areas

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has introduced rural allowance for teachers in Abuja as a way of encouraging them to accept postings to remote areas.
Also, teachers in special schools currently receive 30 per cent bonus because of the special nature of their assignment.

Abuja Xtra gathered that out of the 5,000 staff of the FCT Area Councils Service Commission, about 3,435 benefitted from various trainings and workshops in 2014 alone.
The trainings were to update their skills and knowledge.
This was confirmed by the chairman of FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Alhaji Umar Barau Ningi, who admitted that teachers and education were being given a place of pride in Abuja.
According to him, every ward in FCT can today boast of having at least one school.
He disclosed that the FCT administration always ensured that teachers’ salaries and allowances were paid promptly.
Also, the chairman and chief executive officer of the Area Councils Service Commission, Alhaji Buba Mohammed Gamawa, disclosed that every secondary school in FCT had at least a bus to ease transportation challenges.
He stated that the commission was proud of the achievements being recorded in the education sector in Abuja.
He said: “We in the Area Council Service Commission are proud to be associated with this administration in FCT
“The achievements of this administration are not on paper. They are there for anybody to see and touch. They are physical and visible.”
