Okonjo-Iweala, Other Ministers in Trouble Over Buhari's Latest Speech

Sahara Reporters has hosted President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari and asked him specific questions about his anti-corruption agenda.

He blamed Finance Minister Okonjo Iweala for Nigeria's current financial situation, and said that every minister under his rule will declare their assets in public.

His words, transcribed by the media house: “I’m afraid the Finance Minister has no cause to complain because the governors cannot force the central government to act outside the Constitution.”

The general also noted that: “all those that were governors, ministers, permanent secretaries, head of foreign staff and all those with political appointments will have to declare their assets on the assumption of their appointment and definitely with the courts. And once they leave they have to re-declare their assets.” He said this would ensure greater accountability among public servants.
