Five persons were burnt beyond recognition Wednesday night during a head-on-collision between two trailers along Mowe/Ibafo axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred few kilometres away from the popular Danco filling station along the axis in the Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State.
A trailer had reportedly broken down by the roadside, leading to serious traffic congestion along the axis.
A tanker loaded with petrol drove against the traffic enroute Sagamu, its driver trying to maneuver his way through the traffic jam around the area.
The tanker eventually collided with another trailer laden with granite enroute Lagos from Abeokuta.
The resulting inferno led to the death of five people believed to be occupants of the trailers.
The Public Relation Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, when contacted on phone confirmed the incident.
He explained that officers of the corps were on ground immediately to manage the traffic situation around the area.
He added that the corpses have been deposited at a Sagamu morgue.
In March, seven people were killed, while 23 others were seriously injured in the same area when a trailer fell on two commercial vehicles, killing all occupants.
