Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka
Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has said that it would take creativity and commitment to rid Nigeria of terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
Soyinka also stated that it would take more than a military background to rule Nigeria effectively.
He said this in reference to the belief by many that President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari would be able to combat the sect effectively due to his time in the army.
“The person at the top does not have to be of military experience, it’s useful for him to have had military experience any more than a president has to be an economist, a medical genius, an architect. For me, the army is just another arm of the state,” Soyinka told CNBC Africa.
“It’s the will, the creativity, the commitment, sense of timing of the person who heads an organism like a nation, which really counts – he knows where to go for help,” he added.
Soyinka also added that Buhari could only tackle corruption properly if he didn’t permit corrupt individuals to go scot-free.
