According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the directive was given by the president of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa.
The agency quoted a competent anonymous source from the court headquarters in Abuja as confirming the relocation of the Delta tribunal case.
Although there was no reason given for the development according to the source.
In his words: “I can confirm to you that the panel will no longer sit in Benin, it has been moved to Abuja by the president.
“The court will officially communicate this decision to the parties when a date has been fixed for the next sitting of the panel.”
There had also been a prior confirmation of the decision by a front desk officer at the division, who also pleaded anonymity.
The officer had said that the sitting of the panel had been moved to Abuja.
It will be recalled that the panel had on December 17 concluded hearing in an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate Olorogun O’ tega Emerhor.
In their appeal, the APC and its candidate were praying the panel to quash the decision which the governorship election petition tribunal for delta had made where the election of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was upheld.
The panel had reserved its judgment in the appeal to a date to be communicated to parties.
Meanwhile, a mild drama played out during the courtesy visit of Comrade Daniel Onjeh, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the 2016 Benue South Senatorial rerun election to the Royal Highness (HRH), Agaba Idu Elias Ikoyi Obekpa, the Och’ Idoma IV in Benue state
