EXTRA TIME: Luis Enrique preferred to finish the game with one man fewer rather than risk any of his star players on a cold night at Camp Nou with the Blaugrana already 6-1 ahead
Barcelona boss Luis Enrique opted to finish the game against Villanovense in the Copa del Rey with 10 men instead of risking any of the three outfield players he had left on the bench:Neymar, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta.
French defender Jeremy Mathieu went off injured with 10 minutes left to play in the tie with the Segunda B side and, with Barca already 6-1 up, the Asturian coach decided against calling on any of his star players.
Instead, the Blaugrana played out the game with a man fewer and held on comfortably to win 6-1 both on the night and on aggregate after the two teams played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Extremadura.
"It is perhaps a lack of respect," Villanovense coach Julio Cobos said after the game. "He will have his reasons, but if it had been 2-1, he would have made the change. I would made the substitution."
But Luis Enrique explained: "I decided not to take a risk with Mathieu and those that were on the bench were cold and weren't ready to go on.
