The Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has allayed fears over the purported circulation of plastic rice in Nigerian markets.
Adewole said laboratory tests reveal, that there was no evidence to back up the claims.
It would be recalled that Customs officials seized a batch of 102 bags of rice thought to have be “plastic” rice and samples were sent to laboratories for testing.
Adewole, who wrote the disclaimer on his twitter handle, said after a meeting with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, the rice tested negative for floating, and when cooked, had a normal scent.
The minister however said that NAFDAC “will release detailed findings to the public as soon as it concludes investigations.
He therefore urged Nigerians to remain calm for now
